Short Description: In this interactive session, coordinators will learn about a new decision-tree model of parental decision-making that reveals opportunities for intervention in preventing attrition. Research will be presented, the model explained, and specific suggestions for points of intervention explored. Time in the session will be devoted to open discussion and problem-solving between presenter and participants.
Learning Objectives:
Coordinators will learn specific points in the parental learning and communication process that are most frequently associated with shifts away from public school options.
Attendees will learn the three catalysts that cause parents to either seek elsewhere or stay involved with their current school situation.
Participants will discuss their individual circumstances with the presenter to see how these points of leverage may be utilized in their districts to retain families of gifted students.
