Short Description: Have you ever felt like you're hitting a brick wall when advocating for your student? You know they need something different, but requests for evaluations and suggestions for programming are often blocked. What information do you need to overcome these barriers and communicate your concerns effectively? This presentation will offer straightforward, proven strategies to help you advocate for your student.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn about the identification process for both gifted education and special education and examine obstacles that may impede identification.
  • Participants will gain knowledge of the critical components of a comprehensive evaluation. They will be able to effectively discuss these evaluation components with educational professionals.
  • Participants will walk away with a plan that they can use to effectively advocate for their 2e student with educational professionals.
