Short Description: Twice-exceptional students may be missed for advanced education opportunities if screening methods rely on composite scores. We describe our study examining 6th grade state-level achievement data among students identified for gifted services, special education, or both. A significant percentage of students with high academic domain scores were not identified for gifted services. Implications for equitable identification processes will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will learn how twice-exceptional students perform on state-level achievement tests in comparison to high achieving students without disabilities.
Attendees will learn whether students who obtained advanced domain-specific scores on state-level tests were not identified for talented and gifted programs.
Attendees will learn recommendations for methods of identification that are consistent with the Talent Development Megamodel.
