Short Description: This is a testimonio with various individuals of different ages and from different areas of Latin America who share overlapping experiences of being gifted (identified or not), immigrating as children to the United States, twice/thrice-exceptional, and/or whose first language is Spanish. These individuals share their experiences navigating impostor syndrome, bias, and being identified/supported or not for gifted and/or advanced education.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to describe factors affecting the rate by which multicultural, multilingual, and/or multiply marginalized students are referred, identified, and included in gifted programming.
Attendees will be able to discuss what testimonios are, along with their purpose and importance.
Attendees can conduct similar studies in their home states to further understand and validate the experiences of their M4 students, in order to increase gifted identification rates of underrepresented students.
