Psychologist The Neurodiversity Collective Succasunna, New Jersey, United States
Short Description: “Oh you’re so lucky, you have a gifted child!” If only it was that simple. There are many wonderful things about raising a gifted/2e child, and there are many difficult (if not impossible) things as well. This session will explore the neuropsychology of giftedness and how that manifests in parenting challenges as well as providing solutions to those challenges.
Parents & Families Track - Sponsored by Center for Talent Development, Northwestern University
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to describe the four principal challenges of parenting gifted children and connect those challenges to differences in the gifted neurotype as compared to neurotypical children.
Participants will be able to implement strategies to aid in mitigating challenges in prosocial communication, executive dysfunction, and emotional regulation through the targeted practice of interventions covered in session.
Participants will be able to describe educational and social-emotional benefits of connecting gifted students to relevant communities, as well as troubleshoot ways to gain access to those communities.
