Short Description: Annemarie Roeper, child-centered pioneer in gifted education, believed that global awareness involves striving toward self-actualization as well as interdependence. Gifted children have a deep need to make sense of the world and to make a difference. This session shares highlights of specific programs around the world that enable gifted students to connect passion and purpose beyond test scores and grades.

Learning Objectives:

Learn about Annemarie Roeper’s Self-Actualization/Interdependence (SAI) Model and consider how it relates to one’s current educational setting in light of the diverse settings of the international schools in the presentation.
Develop specific strategies based on the SAI Model that could be adjusted for one’s program to better meet the needs of gifted students, including methods of advocacy for individual students.
Consider the ways that gifted education colleagues, globally, can increase global awareness within their own cultures and systems and by utilizing research-based practices for child-centered gifted education.
