Short Description: Gifted students should be provided with services that challenge them and extend their learning in their areas of strength. But it’s hard to know which assessments tell us who is under-challenged, who has high potential, and what exactly they need. This session examines how to choose identification criteria that best align with services and what factors should drive this decision.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will examine the alignment between identification and services in their own districts (2019 PreK-12 NAGC Gifted Programming Standards: Standard 2.1 & 2.2 - Assessments.)
Participants will understand common gifted identification data points and the services for which they make the most sense.
Participants will understand the differences in identifying students with high ability versus those achieving highly, consider services for the two groups, and for those with high ability and high achievement.
