Short description: Teachers are still unclear about effectively instructing gifted LGBTQ+ students, to these students’ detriment (GLSEN, 2023; Sedillo, 2019). NAGC/CEC’s Initial Gifted-Education Teacher Standards (2024) lack specificity on effective LGBTQ+ instruction but can be adapted. This session adapts seven Initial Teaching Standards to be LGBTQ+ specific and engages attendees regarding three ways to modify each Standard further for underrepresented LGBTQ+ groups.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will attain understanding of seven Initial NAGC/CEC Teaching Standards applicable to gifted LGBTQ+ students.
Attendees will gain an understanding of how each of the seven NAGC/CEC Standards can be adapted in three ways to gifted LGBTQ+ students.
Attendees will learn three ways that each Standard can be adapted to gifted LGBTQ+ students who are rural, twice-exceptional, or culturally-diverse.
