Short Description: Back to Basics will immerse participants in Pennsylvania's Chapter 16 - Special Education for Gifted Students. Signed into law in 2000, Chapter 16 protects the rights of gifted students and their families within the Commonwealth. In this interactive session, participants will explore the law and dive into more immediate topics related to compliance and best practices.

Participants will reflect on current processes and procedures relative to gifted education in their school environments and explore how they meet compliance with the law or are best practices.
Participants will explore how to enhance universal screening processes to improve the universal screening net, ensuring more equitable outcomes in identification and service.
Participants will use learning to improve advocacy at all stakeholder levels and explore the challenges with best practices and compliance.
