Dr. Dornswalo Wilkins-McCorey, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech University, is the Supervisor of Gifted Education for Chesapeake Public Schools' Department of Exceptional Learning. With 26 years dedicated to gifted education, Dr. McCorey’s work champions underrepresented populations, integrates innovative technology, and provides extensive professional learning.
Dr. McCorey's impactful career spans roles from gifted teacher to supervisor in Virginia. Acknowledged nationally, she was a 2006 Frasier Scholar for NAGC, earned the 2020 NAGC Coordinator of the Year, and was honored as the 2022 VA Gifted Leader of the Year.
Her commitment extends to the broader gifted community, including serving on the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted and as Chairwoman of the Virginia Consortium Gifted Education Administrators. Dr. McCorey co-facilitated the 2021 NAGC Convention Task Force and is a member of the NAGC Leadership and Equity Symposium Planning Committees. Currently, she is Past-President and Conference Chair for the Virginia Association for the Gifted and serves on the Project E-Ignite Board, further demonstrating her dedication to advancing gifted education. Additionally, she is a Supporting Emotional Needs for the Gifted Model Parent Gifted facilitator.
