Physics Teacher
Science and Arts Academy
Des Plaines, Illinois, United States
Drew Roling has held roles in leadership and as a middle school science teacher who loves bringing learning to life through hands-on, creative projects. He’s taught in the U.S. and internationally and most recently served as both a physics teacher at a gifted school near Chicago and a Dean of students outside of Chicago. With a background in physics, math, and school leadership, Drew is always looking for ways to connect content across subjects and make it relevant to students’ lives.
One of his favorite units blends physics and music—students build instruments out of recycled materials and then analyze the sound waves they produce. The project is messy, joyful, and packed with learning, which is exactly the kind of classroom experience Drew aims to create. He’s passionate about helping students find their voice, take ownership of their learning, and feel a sense of community and purpose at school.
Outside of teaching, Drew has led advisory programs, coached sports, supported student councils, and facilitated professional development for fellow educators. He believes in the power of strong relationships, inclusion, and never stopping learning, values that shape both his classroom and his career.
