NASA chemist Robert Bryant developed the polymer LaRC-SI (Langley Research Center-Soluble Imide), taking it from laboratory discovery to application as an insulation material for implantable cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. Despite significant vision challenges from oculocutaneous albinism type 2, Bryant’s early love of reading and exploration fueled a lifelong curiosity. A 2023 NIHF Inductee, he has also been honored by NASA and the Space Foundation for his groundbreaking work. He holds more than 30 U.S. patents, over a dozen foreign patents, and multiple R&D 100 Awards, and continues to inspire others through his commitment to innovation and perseverance.
