Short Description: To understand definitions of giftedness, identification procedures, and differentiation strategies, this session proposes a “wrapped gift box” as an extended metaphor of conceptualizing giftedness requires unwrapping, opening, and appreciating. This session will challenge participants to address potential biases unwrapping the gift wrap; use a multiplicity of data to “size up the box,” and apply differentiated strategies to “appreciate the gift.”
Learning Objectives:
Participants will implement the GRIOT framework to ensure a multiplicity of data to identify diverse gifted learners.
Participants will select instructional strategies to promote self-actualization for diverse gifted learners.
Participants will gain understanding of research bases underlying definition, stereotypes, and persistent myths in gifted education.
