Short Description: Ohio's Operating Standards for Identifying and Serving Students Who are Gifted includes the requirement of high-quality professional development for any general education teachers who are supporting gifted learners in their classrooms. This session shares the successes and challenges one school district with limited resources and personnel has faced in supporting teachers in their work with gifted learners.
Learning Objectives:
Define options for providing access to high-quality gifted professional development.
Identify resources useful for supporting teachers' professional learning about giftedness, including instructional practices, equity, and social-emotional aspects.
Consider possibilities for topics, resources, and methods of providing professional learning opportunities to teachers in a range of educational settings, including general education classrooms, honors classes, and AP/IB classes.
