Short description: Traditional concepts of masculinity negatively impact LGBTQ+ and cis-hetero gifted boys through three critical areas: image management, internalization of burden, and lack of authentic friendship. This session will look at these negative impacts and explore ways for the classroom and community to create examples of positive masculinity to improve outcomes for gifted boys.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will understand the role traditional cis-hetero paradigms of masculinity negatives impact gifted boys image management, internalization of burden, and lack of authentic friendships.
Participants will understand how traditional views of masculinity create a double bind for gifted boys focusing on internal perfections and external expectations.
Participants will gain strategies to support gifted males in the creation and enactment of positive masculinity.
