Dr. Karen Arnstein is a postdoctoral research assistant at Purdue University, contributing to a Javits grant project that employs positive psychology to identify and support underrepresented gifted and talented students. With an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Gifted Education from the University of Denver, Dr. Arnstein brings over a decade of experience working with K-12 students and educators.
Her research focuses on the developmental transitions of preadolescent twice-exceptional (2e) students, exploring the influence of parents, teachers, psychologists, and educational environments on this unique demographic. Collaborating with Barry Gelston, Dr. Arnstein developed the Spiral Model of Development, presenting at prominent conferences such as NAGC, SENG, and WCGTC.
In addition to her research role, Dr. Arnstein is a core faculty member at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in Education. She serves the Chair for the Special Populations special interest group (SIG) at NAGC. Dr. Arnstein's commitment extends to various publications, including articles, book chapters, and an edited international collaboration. Her dedication to advancing research and understanding in the field, as well as her collaborative efforts on the Spiral Model of Development, reflects a steadfast commitment to supporting the diverse needs of gifted, talented, and twice-exceptional students.
