Sonya Burchett is a K-5 gifted resource teacher in the Montgomery County Public School System in Virginia, drawing on 26 years of experience, including her time as a first and second-grade general education teacher and a gifted cluster teacher. Her unique perspective allows her to understand the needs of both students and classroom teachers deeply. Sonya is a strong advocate for all students, committed to empowering educators to recognize and support diverse learners. She has extensive experience co-leading division-wide staff developments related to Gifted Education and has presented at national conferences. Sonya holds an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University and a gifted endorsement from the University of Virginia, and was the 2017-18 Virginia Gifted Association Teacher of the Year for Region 6.
