Shana Lusk, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Education at Western Colorado University. She earned her doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut, where she served as a research assistant on Project LIFT and Project Focus. A member of the Catawba Nation, her dissertation used qualitative and computational methods to explore the educational experiences of her fellow tribal members, documenting stories of school integration and cultural identity from the 1960s to the present. Shana brings a strong commitment to equity and culturally sustaining pedagogy in teacher preparation. Her professional experience includes classroom teaching in multilingual settings, as well as speaking engagements with notMYkid, where she educated secondary students on Safe Dating and Healthy Relationships. She holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in English as a Second Language from Arizona State University. As a former Javits-Frasier Scholar with the National Association for Gifted Children, she continues to advocate for culturally and linguistically diverse gifted learners. Her research and teaching interests include Indigenous education, multilingual education, text analytics, research education, gifted education, teacher preparation, and the long-term educational outcomes of marginalized students.
