Gifted Education Facilitator
Ben Franklin Academy
Castle Pines, Colorado, United States
Katie has spent the last 24 years teaching in the picturesque suburbs along the front range of Denver. She possesses degrees in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master’s degree in Special Education, and a Gifted and Talented Specialist endorsement. She taught fifth grade before moving into her role as the gifted and talented education specialist at Ben Franklin Academy in Highlands Ranch and the gifted and talented lead for charter schools in the Douglas County School District, a position that allows her to support several charter schools in DCSD. This is her eleventh year working in gifted education, and she is passionate about creating well-rounded programming that best supports gifted learners. When she is not at school, she can be found reading books about aliens, time travel, murder, and worlds that do not exist. Katie also enjoys watching movies with her husband and three children and engaging in heated debates over which superhero is the best (Thor), which movie has the most memorable dialogue (The Princess Bride), or which of the three Star Wars trilogies has the most complex villain (still up for debate).
