Homero Chávez is the director of the Early College Program (ECP) at the Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 in the border city of San Luis, Arizona. The program offers advanced academic opportunities for high-performing students from fourth through eighth grade. Since 2007, the program has helped 3500 students take college-level algebra up to Precalculus, starting in fifth grade, including taking the America College Test – ACT. 1,650 students have attended the Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth Summer Program. ECP received the 2022 and 2025 Magna Silver Award for equity and excellence by the National School Boards Association. Homero’s work has appeared in the American Consortium for Equity in Education Journal “Reducing Excellence Gaps: The GESD Early College Program”, and in the American School Board Journal. He collaborated on a year-long report – “Building a Wider More Diverse Pipeline of Advanced Learners” with the National Working Group on Advanced Education at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. His work was also featured by Peg Tyre, New York Times bestselling author in her report Excellence With Equity-The Case For Rethinking Gifted Education. Homero is a former theater director, actor, and literature professor, with degrees in Literature, Counseling and Educational Leadership.
