Short Description: Many educators appreciate online learning for its academic possibilities, as the reach of online programs often exceeds that of brick-and-mortar schools. However, the emotional and communal needs of gifted students in online environments must be prioritized. This presentation shows educators how to employ a holistic model of online learning that integrates gifted students’ academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will understand the social, emotional, communal, and cultural challenges faced by gifted students in online programs and will receive tools for meeting those challenges in their own online classrooms.
The presenter will offer a framework for holistic online learning for gifted students that teachers can employ in their virtual classrooms, including recommendations for grouping, curriculum, communication, and support services.
Participants will learn not only about tools and apps that they can use in their online classrooms, but also how to ensure that all technology is human-based, engaging, and interactive.
