Short Description: What does a gifted student look like? In this presentation, attendees will use a body biography activity to illustrate physical and behavioral manifestations of giftedness and identify mental and motivational characteristics. Together presenters and attendees will examine the assumptions underlying the illustrations and interrogate how these assumptions align with practice, and equip attendees to implement this self-reflective activity.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will illustrate their preexisting conceptions of giftedness, both physical (gender, race, ability) and mental (gifted characteristics, temperament, motivation), through participation in the Body Biography activity.
Attendees will interpret their assumptions about giftedness and apply these to their educational contexts with a focus on alignment with current identification protocols and representation within their student populations.
Attendees will be able to implement the Body Biography and reflective application as a professional development session, using it as a pre-assessment to provide data-driven PD and targeted instruction.
