Short description: Gifted LGBTQ+ youth seek to learn about their complex identities wherever they can, including taking cues from pop culture. The messages they receive range from tropes perpetuating stereotypes to realistic representations portraying giftedness and LGBTQ+ identity with nuance. We can help gifted LGBTQ+ youth find pride when navigating pop culture! As Batwoman said, “Real strength lies in being yourself, unapologetically.”

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will acquire an evidence-based understanding of the social-emotional needs of students who are gifted and LGBTQ+.
  • Participants will learn about a successful, evidence-based framework for utilizing relevant social-emotional lessons based on student interests.
  • Participants will obtain applicable advice for replicating these social-emotional and responsive lessons.
