Short Description: Gifted may not mean easy. This presentation explores central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), a commonly occurring condition in the gifted population, through clinical practice and evidence-based research. Attendees will become knowledgeable on CAPD and its impact in the gifted population. Strategies to support gifted children across all school environments as well as home and social settings will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Gain an understanding of central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), a commonly occurring condition in the gifted population.
With the aid of Venn Diagrams, become knowledgeable about the characteristics of CAPD and the overlap in coexisting conditions in the gifted population (i.e. ADHD, autism, dyslexia, sensory processing challenges).
Provide recommendations and strategies for CAPD to better help parents, teachers, and other professionals advocate for and support gifted children with CAPD.
