Short Description: This phenomenological study investigated perspectives of gifted students and their siblings to gain insights into the impact of giftedness on family relationships and resources including relationships with parents and siblings. Participant interviews revealed four themes. Implications inform educators, parents, counselors, and communities of the lived experiences of gifted individuals and the impact of giftedness on family dynamics and resources.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will be able to recognize the unique needs of families with children with mixed abilities (e.g., gifted and non-gifted identification).
Attendees will be able to recognize ways in which to better support and advocate for families of gifted children, particularly, families with siblings with and without gifted identification.
Attendees will gain insight into how to help parents navigate the challenges of family relationships and resources in the context of giftedness.
