The lesson explores how historical narratives can be inaccurately recorded, deliberately omitted, or strategically rewritten to align with the agendas of dominant groups.
Learning Objectives:
Students explore how perspective shapes language by constructing three alternative (rewritten, inaccurate, and omitted) versions of a historical event. Doing so allows them to identify patterns in historical accounts and reconsider the histories they have come to accept unquestioningly.
Students use literary and critical analysis to evaluate the language and tone of authoritative texts and articles. This expands their understanding of the historical event and allows them to explore perspectives often left out of traditional accounts.
