An equity advocate, Angela Novak, Ph.D., is Associate Professor & Gifted Coordinator at East Carolina University. For 25+ years, Angela has engaged collectively with learners, families, communities, and educators in K-22 public schools as an inclusion co-teaching partner, gifted classroom teacher, gifted support specialist, and central office administrator; she also worked with a non-profit gifted company writing curriculum, providing professional learning, and facilitating programs. Multilingualism, equity, and belongingness have been deeply embedded throughout all of these experiences, both personally and professionally, contributing to her lived experiences and research focuses in equity, giftedness, professional learning, collegians, and play. Angela has written and edited books, chapters, articles, editorials, newsletters, and guest blogs as well as at local, state, national, and international conferences and been an invited guest on multiple podcasts. Angela serves in a variety of delegate, network, committee, and board roles for Xavier House, The Association for the Gifted (NC and international), National Association for Gifted Children, World Council for Gifted and Talented Children, Gifted Child Quarterly, and Journal of Gifted Education and Creativity. She is on the Advisory Council of Pure Play Every Day, is a member of Diversity Scholars Network, and is the Editor of Journal of Advanced Academics.
