Sneha Shah-Coltrane is currently the Senior Director of the Office of Advanced Learning & Gifted Education and Academic Policy at the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). She works with public school district and charter school leaders and teachers, policymakers, families, colleges/universities, and other advocates to ensure that the advanced learning needs of students are effectively met in NC’s public schools. As an additional role, she serves as the agency lead for academic policy.
Sneha has served public education for nearly 30 years, as an elementary school teacher, gifted education specialist, central office staff, professional developer, researcher, administrator at the state level. Her research work was with Project U-STARS~PLUS, a Javits grant with UNC-Chapel Hill. She has also held leadership positions in several professional organizations, including the Early Childhood Division Chair for NAGC and CEC-TAG Board of Directors. Most recently, she has served as Past-President of the Council of State Directors of Programs for Gifted (CSDPG) and served on Fordham Institute’s National Workgroup for Advanced Education.
Throughout her career, Sneha has worked towards ensuring that schools are cultivating, recognizing, and responding to outstanding potential, especially untapped potential, advocating for the needs of all advanced learners through mindsets, policies and practices.
